BELLAGIO AND LAKE COMO
BELLAGIO
“Pearl of Lake Como”, lying on the homonymous promontory, known since Roman times for its mild climate even during the winter season, Bellagio is the exclusive point where you can organize your stay.
Our facilities are located in a residential area near the village of San Giovanni a few steps from the historic village where countless cafes, restaurants and quaint shops scattered along the alleys and stairways waiting to involve you in an atmosphere to be remembered.
We recommend to pay a visit at San Giacomo cathedral erected in Romanesque style, to the Tower of the Arts where cultural exhibitions are held, to the “Punta” where you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the western branch of the lake and the Alps, the elegant lakefront recently renovated and to the historic city park.
SAN GIOVANNI DI BELLAGIO
Once a fishing village and now a tourist village, San Giovanni is one of the hamlets of which Bellagio is studded.
A walk in the characteristic alleys, where you will also find a “bicycles” house, will lead you to the lake with the homonymous square where stands the baroque church dedicated to San Giovanni.
Near the church there is the headquarters of Canottieri Bellagina who gave world champions to Italy such as the brothers Franco and Elisabetta Sancassani as well as Daniele Gilardoni.
Do not miss the festival held on the occasion of the feast of St. John in June and the torchlight procession with departure from the Grand Hotel Serbelloni in the center of Bellagio.
LOPPIA AND PESCALLO
Loppia a few steps from San Giovanni, once a fishing village, and placed at the edge of the park of Villa Melzi d’Eril, offers a cameo of historic buildings, some dating back to the Middle Ages with references to the flourishing commercial activity that took place along the lake . Do not miss the small harbor where the last lgondola lariana is moored, a characteristic transport boat used until the last century and the church of Santa Maria di Loppia with the eponymous stairway next to the park of the noble Villa Gerli.
Pescallo, a few steps from the historic center of Bellagio, once a fishing village, is worth a visit, perhaps stopping in the square overlooking the bay with the impressive view of the Grigne and next to the park of Villa Serbelloni now home of the Rockefeller Foundation.
VILLE PATRIZIE
Holiday resort of noble families coming from Milan and Brianza, over the centuries Bellagio has seen patrician villas with important architectures and parks rising along its shore.
The most famous, Villa Melzi d’Eril, a few steps from our facilities, which can be visited during the tourist season, will take you walking from the small port of Loppia to the edge of the center of Bellagio. The park, awarded as “the most beautiful park in Italy”, contains precious essences and decorative corners offering the enchanting view of Tremezzina and Villa Carlotta along the lakeside walk
In the immediate vicinity we find the private residences not accessible Villa Gerli and Villa Trotti while Villa Serbelloni, with park on the promontory of Bellagio, can be visited by appointment.
VARENNA
Varenna, one among of the towns easily accessible by ferry or boat from Bellagio, will welcome you with its narrow streets and characteristic stairways. Riva Grande deserves a view, perhaps accessing it from the “Walk of Love” immediately accessible from the arrival pier of transport on the lake.
We suggest a visit to the Church of San Giorgio with interesting examples of medieval high art and the enchanting park of Villa Monastero, home to numerous seminars and congresses including the annual “Italian School of Physics”.
